Scope

The Davistown RSL Club Members and Guests Code of Conduct is designed to ensure that every visitor—whether member or guest—respects all others, including our staff. These guidelines, among others, are intended to create an environment where everyone can work and enjoy themselves safely, respectfully, and inclusively. It is the responsibility of every member and guest to uphold these standards and address any concerns or conflicts in a respectful manner. By working together to maintain a courteous atmosphere, our club remains a welcoming space for all.

Guidelines

  1. Dress Code
    Members and guests are expected to dress appropriately in line with the Club’s dress code. Attire that is offensive or promotes violence, racism, or any form of discrimination is not permitted. Management reserves the right to enforce this policy at their discretion.
  2. Respectful Behaviour
    Everyone is expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and courteous manner towards fellow members, guests, and staff at all times.
  3. Harassment and Bullying
    Bullying and harassment of any kind are strictly prohibited on Club premises. This includes verbal, physical, or online abuse, as well as any form of intimidation or exclusion. Such behaviour undermines the safety and well-being of all and will not be tolerated.
  4. Sexual Harassment
    Sexual harassment is not allowed under any circumstances. Any form of unwanted sexual attention—whether through advances, comments, or gestures—will be dealt with swiftly. All members and guests are expected to ensure that their conduct does not make others feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
  5. Responsible Drinking
    Alcohol consumption should be done responsibly. Members and guests are expected not to overindulge or cause disturbances. Intoxication is not an acceptable excuse for breaching any part of this Code of Conduct. The Club may refuse service to anyone who appears intoxicated, in alignment with our commitment to community safety and the standards of the Brisbane Water Liquor Accord.
  6. Compliance with Club Policies
    All members and guests must adhere to the Club’s policies, including those regarding smoking, gambling, the presence of minors, and the use of Club facilities.
  7. Prohibition of Illegal Activity
    Engaging in any illegal activities, including the use or possession of illegal drugs, is strictly forbidden on Club premises. Any such activity will be reported to the police.
  8. Use of Club Facilities
    Members and guests are expected to use Club facilities responsibly. This means taking care not to damage property, avoiding disruptions to others’ enjoyment, and following all safety guidelines.

Reporting Procedures

If you witness or experience any non-compliance with these policies, please report the matter immediately to the manager on duty, the GM, or our HR department at HR@Davistownrsl.com.au. Your report will help us investigate the incident and take appropriate action to prevent future occurrences. Consequences for Non-Compliance Any behaviour that is deemed unbecoming or prejudicial to the interests of the Club will result in disciplinary action, as outlined in our Club Constitution. Members and guests who do not adhere to these guidelines may be asked to leave the premises, and Club members may face suspension or revocation of membership. In severe cases, the matter may be referred to the police. These measures are in place to uphold the Club’s standards and ensure the well-being of all members, guests, and staff.

We appreciate your commitment to making Davistown RSL Club a safe, respectful, and enjoyable place for everyone.

Responsible Service of Alcohol Policy

Davistown RSL Club is committed to upholding the highest standards of Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA). We ensure that all our service staff receive comprehensive training to identify and manage intoxication, intervene appropriately, and maintain a safe, welcoming atmosphere for every member and guest.

Our RSA training covers:

  • Recognising signs of intoxication and intervening early.
  • Techniques to refuse service in a respectful and consistent manner.
  • Strategies to minimise potential alcohol-related incidents.
  • Guidelines on monitoring and controlling the pace of alcohol service.
  • Procedures for handling conflict or emergencies related to alcohol consumption.

By adhering to these practices, we aim to reduce the negative social impacts of alcohol consumption and promote a culture of safety and respect throughout our club. We work closely with local authorities and adhere to all regulatory requirements to ensure that alcohol is enjoyed responsibly, supporting the overall wellbeing of our community.

At Davistown RSL Club, we believe that responsible alcohol service is essential to preserving the integrity and enjoyment of our club environment, ensuring that all patrons can relax and have a great time in a safe setting.

Minor & Responsible Adult Notice

At Davistown RSL Club, minors (under 18) are welcome on the premises provided that the following conditions are strictly observed:

  • Supervision: Minors must always be accompanied by a responsible adult (e.g. parent, guardian, or a designated adult acting in that capacity) throughout their time at the club.
  • Alcohol Restrictions: Under no circumstances may minors possess, consume, or attempt to purchase any alcoholic  beverages.
  • Restricted Areas: Minors must adhere to all club signage, avoiding areas designated as off-limits to those under 18. They are not permitted in the bar areas unless accompanied by a responsible adult, and they must not approach or operate gaming machines.
  • Departure Time: Minors are required to leave the club premises when their accompanying adult departs, and no later than 10:00 PM.

By entering the club, both the minor and the responsible adult agree to comply with these conditions. Failure to adhere to any of these rules may result in the minor and the adult being asked to leave immediately, and in serious cases, the incident may be reported to the police.

These measures are in place to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all our members and guests.

Davistown RSL Club reserves the right to refuse entry to minors should Management determine that the definition of ‘Responsible Adult’ is not met.

Responsible Conduct of Gambling

At Davistown RSL Club, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where members can enjoy gaming while minimising the risks associated with gambling. We take a proactive approach to responsible gambling and have partnered with ClubSAFE, a dedicated program that provides expert advice and support to address problem gambling.

Our initiatives include:

  • Staff Training and Awareness: All our team members receive thorough training in responsible gambling practices. They are equipped to spot early signs of gambling issues and provide appropriate support and referrals when needed.
  • Member Support Services: We offer confidential assistance and counselling for anyone experiencing difficulties with gambling. Our aim is to ensure help is available and accessible for our members.
  • Proactive Monitoring and Education: We regularly assess our gambling operations and provide educational resources to raise awareness about the risks of excessive gambling. This helps promote healthy gaming habits and informed decision-making.
  • Compliance with Regulatory Standards: We operate in strict accordance with all state and federal gambling regulations, ensuring that every aspect of our gaming environment meets the highest standards of fairness and responsibility.

Our goal is to maintain a vibrant and enjoyable Club atmosphere where everyone can have a good time responsibly, and where community well-being is always our top priority.

Policy Statement

Davistown RSL Club is dedicated to fostering a workplace culture where honesty, integrity, and strong business ethics are paramount. This policy encourages the reporting of any conduct that may be unethical, illegal, or indicative of serious wrongdoing. We provide robust measures to protect those who raise concerns, ensuring reports can be made confidentially and without fear of intimidation, disadvantage, or reprisal.

Scope

This policy applies to all directors, employees, contractors, consultants, and associated subsidiary companies of Davistown RSL Club.

Purpose

This policy establishes a framework for identifying and addressing wrongdoing, and it offers clear guidance on how to raise concerns about suspected or actual unethical or unlawful behaviour. Our goal is to create a supportive environment where issues can be raised openly, ensuring the integrity of our operations and protecting the interests of the Club and its members.

Qualifying for Protection

Legislation such as the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) provides specific protections for whistle-blowers. These protections ensure that individuals who disclose wrongdoing are safeguarded from any detriment, such as dismissal, harassment, or reputational damage.

A person qualifies for protection if:

  • They are an eligible whistle-blower;
  • They have reasonable grounds to suspect that the information disclosed relates to wrongdoing (a disclosable matter) within the Club; and
  • The information is provided to an appropriate prescribed recipient.

Additional avenues to qualify for protection include making a disclosure to a legal practitioner for the purpose of obtaining legal advice, or in the case of an emergency disclosure where there is a risk to public health or safety.

Eligible Whistle-Blowers

An eligible whistle-blower is defined as a current or former employee, director, or volunteer of the Club. This also extends to suppliers (and their staff) and relatives or dependants of current or former Club staff, directors, or suppliers.

Disclosable Matters

This policy covers disclosures where an individual has reasonable grounds to suspect:

  • A breach of Commonwealth, State, or Territory legislation, or local by-laws;
  • Fraud, corruption, or illegal activities (including theft, drug-related offences, violence, or criminal damage);
  • Discrimination, vilification, sexual harassment, or bullying;
  • Unsafe work practices.

Even if an allegation is later found to be unsubstantiated, protection may still apply if the disclosure was made in good faith and the individual had reasonable grounds to suspect wrongdoing.

Tax-Related Disclosures

Disclosures concerning federal tax matters (e.g., corporate tax, CGT, GST, or FBT) are treated separately from other disclosures. If you suspect tax-related wrongdoing, please refer to the prescribed recipients for tax matters. Disclosures regarding state-regulated taxes (such as gaming, payroll, or land tax) should be made as non-tax matters.

Prescribed Recipients

For non-tax matters, disclosures should be made to:

  • A director or senior manager of the Club;
  • The Club’s internal or external auditor (or a member of the external audit team); or
  • ASIC or APRA.

For tax matters, disclosures should be made to:

  • The Commissioner of Taxation;
  • An employee’s direct manager or supervisor;
  • The Club’s internal or external auditor;
  • A registered tax or BAS agent; or
  • A director or senior manager of the Club.

Protections for Whistle-Blowers

If a disclosure qualifies for whistle-blower protection, the following safeguards apply:

  • Confidentiality: The identity of the whistle-blower is protected, except where disclosure is required by law or to certain prescribed authorities.
  • Protection from Detriment: No whistle-blower shall suffer any adverse action (e.g. dismissal, harassment, or damage to reputation) as a result of making a disclosure.
  • Compensation and Remedies: Whistle-blowers may seek compensation or other remedies if they experience detriment due to their disclosure.
  • Protection from Legal Liability: Whistle-blowers are safeguarded from legal action for breaches such as confidentiality, provided the disclosure is made in good faith.

Reporting Procedures

If you suspect wrongdoing, please report your concerns as follows:

  1. First, report the matter to your direct manager or the Chief Administrative Officer.
  2. If this is not appropriate, you may contact the Chief Executive Officer or any Director or senior manager of the Club.
  3. For concerns relating to tax matters, please direct your disclosure to the Commissioner of Taxation or a registered tax agent.
  4. Alternatively, disclosures may be made to our external auditor at [email address] or the provided contact details.

All disclosures should include clear and specific details (e.g. dates, places, names, amounts) to enable a thorough investigation.

Handling and Investigation

Once a disclosure is received, the Club will:

  • Assess whether the disclosure qualifies for protection;
  • Determine whether a formal investigation is required (advisory legal input may be sought); and
  • Keep you informed of the progress of the investigation if the disclosure is not made anonymously.

Investigations will be conducted promptly, fairly, and confidentially, with due regard for the rights of all parties involved. The findings will be documented and shared with the Board and senior management in a manner that protects the whistle-blower’s confidentiality.

Confidentiality and Protection from Reprisal

All steps will be taken to maintain your confidentiality. Information about your disclosure will not be circulated without your consent, except where legally required. Any retaliatory action against a whistle-blower is a serious breach of this policy and may result in disciplinary measures, including dismissal, and if necessary, legal action.

Availability

This policy is available to all staff and members via the Staff Handbook, the internal network, and our Club website.

Review and Consultation

This policy is reviewed regularly by the Leadership Team and the Davistown RSL Club Board of Directors to ensure ongoing effectiveness and compliance with applicable laws. Any updates to this policy will be communicated to staff and members in a timely manner.
